Mikhail Pochekin’s expressive and bright artistic charisma helped him earn the admiration of the audience. His musicianship has been recognized by international critics and many of the world’s renowned orchestras. As soloist, Mikhail appeared with the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, Russian National Orchestra, Sinfonieorchester Basel, Mariinsky Theater Symphony, Lithuanian National Orchestra, State symphony orchestra of Russia "Evgeny Svetlanov", among others. His 2025/26 season highlights include his debuts with the Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra (RTVE) in Madrid and Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn.
Mikhail has appeared at numerous venues worldwide. Solo performances have taken him to renowned festivals and concert halls such as Munich's "Gasteig", Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow, the National Philharmonic of Ukraine in Kyiv, the Kronberg Academy Festival, the concert halls of Stiftung Mozarteum in Salzburg, or the Concordia International Festival of Contemporary Music named after Sofia Gubaidulina in Kazan.
Mikhail has worked with conductors including Vasily Sinaisky, Heinz Holliger, Daniel Raiskin, Stanislav Kochanovsky, Mei-Ann Chen, Valentin Uryupin or Dmitry Matvienko.
His extensive discography includes a wide range of violin repertoire.
In 2019, the German label Solo Musica released his album "6 Sonatas & Partitas BWV 1001-1006" for violin solo by J.S. Bach. The international press hailed it as “an outstanding achievement” (Julian Haylock, The Strad, November 2019) and "a great recording“ (Reinhard Brembeck, Süddeutsche Zeitung, 15.04.2019).
2021 Mikhail's album with Mozart's Violin Concerto Nr. 5 and the Sinfonia Concertante was released on the Hänssler Classic label, followed quickly by next collaborations, recording violin concertos by Mendelssohn and Bruch accompanied by the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen and Sebastian Tewinkel, as well as his latest release, which includes the complete works for violin and orchestra by Dvořak with Daniel Raiskin conducting the Slovak Philharmonic.
Special mention should be made of his duo with his brother, violinist and violist Ivan Pochekin. Their album entitled “The Unity of Opposites” was released by Melodiya label, and includes works for two violins by Prokofiev and Glière, as well as violin and viola by Mozart and Michael Haydn.
Mikhail has a great love for chamber music. He is co-founder and Artistic Director of the Landshut Kammermusikfestival in Bavaria, organized by „Freunde der Musik e.V. Landshut” since August 2023.
For him, the chamber music is an absolutely special kind of conversation between people, which brings together a variety of musicians on stage, and as a result - vivid communication, in-depth study of works and close contact with the audience. Among the artists with whom Mikhail has shared the stage are Christian Tetzlaff, Ilya Gringolts, Kian Soltani, Tanja Tetzlaff, Anastasia Kobekina, Petrit Çeku, Herbert Schuch or Yury Favorin.
For many years, he has collaborated with the Live Music Now foundation. The main idea of these performances was to bring music to people who themselves cannot come to the concert hall.
Mikhail was born to a musical family: his father is a violin maker, his mother is a violin teacher and his brother is a violinist and violist. Thus, the sounds of the violin accompanied Mikhail from his early childhood. He received his first lesson from G.S.Turchaninova at the age of five and continued his studies with Viktor Tretiakov, Rainer Schmidt and Ana Chumachenco.
Already at a young age, his playing was recognized with prizes at various international competitions, among them Premio Rodolfo Lipizer, Pablo Sarasate Violin Competition or Jascha Heifetz Violin Competition.
In Spain Mikhail was awarded the Pablo Sarasate National Prize, after which he received an invitation from the Royal Conservatory of Madrid to give a concert on the Antonio Stradivarius "Ex Boissier", which once belonged to the famous Spanish violinist.
